We can find the answer using the common method (by making equal to a fraction ) or  by using the formula (a+b)/2

Solution:

let's use the formula (a+b)/2

⇒ (3.1 +3.2)/2

or, 6.3/2

or, 3.15

∴ The new number is 3.15.

then, take a = 3.1 and b = 3.15

(a+b)/2

⇒ (3.1 + 3.15)/2

or, 6.25/2

or, 3.125

∴ The new number is 3.125 .

∵ The new numbers are 3.125 and 3.15
