Difference between prophase and telophase:
- Although mitosis is a continuous process, four broad phases may be distinguished, each of which is defined by a particular activity. A centriole that is positioned outside the nucleus divides during the prophase, the first phase. The nuclear membrane vanishes as the lengthy, threadlike substance of the nucleus coils up into the visible chromosomes. Long, fine threads protrude from the centrioles in all directions. The spindle is made up of many of them from one centriole joining strands from the other.
- The cell divides in the final stage, the telophase. The chromosomes uncoil, new membranes form around the nuclei, and the spindle fibres vanish, which are the opposite of the changes that happened during prophase. The cell has split into two identical cells, which are now prepared to start their initial growth phase.
- Telophase is distinguished from prophase primarily by the presence of single-stranded chromosomes and two identical daughter cells. The chromosomes, however, consist of two chromatids in prophase. In telophase, the prophase-generated spindle disassembles. In contrast, the nuclear envelope, which had collapsed in prophase, has grown and split into two.
