Given x = asinwt + bcoswt. . . (i)

Let a = Acoso. . . (ii).

and bAsino. . . (iii)

Squaring adding (ii) and (iii), we get

a² + b² = A²cos2²0 + A²sin² = A²

Eq. (i) can be written as

X= Acososinut + Asinocoswt Asin(wt + o)

It is equation of SHM with amplitude A = √a² + b²
