Chattampi Swamikal - Author of Adibhasha:

  • Hindu sage and social reformer Sree Vidyadhiraja Parama Bhattaraka Chattampi Swamikal (30 August 1853 - 5 May 1924) lived during the Victorian era. His ideas and work helped numerous social, religious, literary, and political organisations and movements in Kerala get off the ground and for the first time gave the voiceless a voice.
  • Using evidence from the Vedas, Chattampi Swamikal criticised the conventional interpretation of Hindu writings. Swamikal worked to change the very ceremonial and caste-based Hindu culture of late 19th-century Kerala with the help of his contemporary, Narayana Guru. Swamikal fought for women's freedom and pushed them to take leadership roles in society.
  • Swamikal advocated for vegetarianism and declared against violence (Ahimsa). Swamikal held the opinion that there are various religious ways that all led to the same destination. Chattampi Swamikal has many friends from various parts of Kerala during his academically and spiritually rich life. He spent time with these companions while writing various volumes on language, history, and spirituality.
