1. The birds were not ringing. The trees were ringing (echoing) with the sound of the birds chirping.

2. Now the forest looks quiet and deserted, almost as if no one lives there. There seems to be no living creatures around. Everything is as still as death itself.

3. The birds most probably do not like the mist and so have taken shelter, and are in the resting mode.

4. The mist comes climbing up.

5. The opposite of 'silence' is 'noise'.

6. 'Still' means 'without any movement'.

7. The monsoon mist conceals the hills, because it reduces visibility.

8. The birds can probably sense the moisture in the air and can feel that it will rain. So, they take shelter from the rain and rest. That makes them less active and therefore they stop singing as soon as it gets misty.
