Answer:

So after 13 days they would have used the standard provisions only after that would the new soldiers affect the provisions! At this point they have 48 - 13 = 35 days

however the provisions are used in 25 days which means there are extra people - how many? Here goes

35/25 = 1,4 x 1500 = 2100 soldiers

2100 - 1500 = 600 soldiers joined

Answer:

600 soldiers

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Numbers of soldiers in a fort have provision = 1500

Days food last when there were 1500 = 48days

After 13 days few soldiers joined (let it be x)

Food lasts for when there were 1500 + x =25 days

Now,

If, in one day one soldier eats 1 food item

Then, in one day 1500 soldiers eat 1500 food items.

Now, in 48 days no. of food items eaten = 1500 × 48 = 72000 food items

If x soldiers joined after 13 days.

So, the food items eaten by 1500 + x soldiers = 1500 (48 - 13) = 1500 × 35

                                                                            = 52500 food items

Now, 52500 lasts for 25 days

∴ 52500 = 25 (1500 + x)

⇒ 52500 = 37500 + 25x

⇒ 25x = 52500 - 37500

⇒ x = 15000/25

⇒ x = 600 soldiers
