Let mass of solute be x gm.

Then, % by mass of solution = Mass of solute × 100 / ( Mass of solution )

2.38 = 100x / (x + 500)

2.38 x + 1190 = 100x

97.62 x = 1190

  • x = 12. 19 gm ( Mass of solute)
