EXAMPLE:-A train leaves new delhi railway station at 9:00 A.M. and reaches jaipur , which is at a distance of 260 km at 12:45 PM . The train reaches alwar ( at distance 150 km from new delhi ) at 11:30AM and stops there for 15 minutes .
1) what is the reference point for the motion of the train ?
2) What is the average speed of the train between altar and Jaipur ?
SOLUTION:-
I) The reference point should be at Delhi because all distances and time are measured from there only.
II) Distance betweeen alwar and jaipur = 260-150 = 110km
train starts from alwar at 11:45 as it stops for 15 minutes after reaching alwar at 11:30
Therefore, time taken by the train to reach jaipur from alwar = 12:45 - 11:45 = 1 hour
Average speed of the train = Total DistanceTotal Time = 110×1 = 110 Km/Hr
