Ganesh Chaturthi is just a little less than a month away and preparations are in full force all over Maharashtra and South India. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated to commemorate the birth of lord Ganesha. Ganesha who is considered to be superior to all Gods is also widely worshipped as the God of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune, and customarily prayed at the beginning of any new venture or at the start of a travel.
Ganesh Chaturthi is best celebrated when you have lots of people around and not only your close circle of friends and family. The best possible way to ensure that, would be by celebrating it in your housing society.
1. Collecting money: To begin with, start with collecting some amount from each and every family and buy a beautiful Ganesh idol. Do make sure that the idol is eco-friendly so as to avoid pollution during idol immersion.
2. On the day of the puja install the idol during the Shubh, Labh or Amrit Choghadiya. If you intend to bring Ganpati ji one day before that is on the 16th September 2015, the Labh time is between 06:30 and 08:01 and the Amrit time is 08:01 and 09:32. The Shubh time is between 11:03 and 12:33. The idol must be placed just opposite the entrance. Also make proper lighting arrangements. Once that done do get a ‘pujari’ to do the puja on time before moving on with the other celebrations revolving the festival.
3. Daily prayers and Pooja: Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated over a period of 10 days and hence after the Ganesh idol is installed (or what we know as ‘sthapana’ in your housing society) make sure that there is a daily prayer on a specific time every day till the last day.
4. Rangoli is an important part of this festival and this is done in the doorways. So this year instead of just decorating your own door way do make a Rangoli near the doorway of your housing society.
5. Feasts can be arranged for all the 10 days and groups of people from within the housing society can join hands to dish out mouth-watering delicacies for each of the 10days.
6.Lastly, on the day of the immersion there can be some cultural activities. People also use gulal to add some extra fun to this day. In case gulal is being used then make sure to use herbal products which won’t be bad for the skin. Idol immersion causes pollution hence do try to immerse the idol only in a large drum of water instead of lakes and rivers.
We hope you have one of the most memorable celebrations this year during Ganesh Chaturthi. Don’t forget to comment below and let us know on what special you indulged in this year.
