Answer :-

Image is formed at a distance of 15 cm from the mirror.

Explanation :-

We have :-

→ Magnification = 0.5

→ The mirror is a rear view mirror.

→ Distance of the object = 30 cm

________________________________

Since it is given that the mirror is a rear view mirror. So, it is a convex mirror.

For a convex mirror :-

• u = -30 cm

Now, according to formula of magnification :-

m = -(v/u)

⇒ 0.5 = -(v/-30)

⇒ 0.5 = v/30

⇒ v = 0.5 × 30

v = 15 cm

Given :-

0.5 was the Magnification of an image formed on a rear view mirror When the Object was placed at a distance of 30cm.

To Find :-

Image distance

Solution :-

We know that

m = -v/u

Where

m = magnification

v = image distance

u = object distance

0.5 = -v/u

  • 0.5 can be written as 1/2

1/2 = -v/-30

1/2 = v/30

1(30) = 2v

30 = 2v

30/2 = v

15 = v
