Answer:

M=64

Explanation:

given

Mass of bivalent metal = 0.54gm

Mass of metal oxide = 0.9gm

Atomic mass of metal=?

Solution.

From reaction

M + O2 --------> MO.

Find the mass of O

0.9-0.54 = 0.36gm

Then mole of O2

Mole = mass/Mr

Mole = 0.36/32

Mole= 0.01125

Then mole of O I equal to mole of MO from equation

Then

Mole = mass/Mr

Mr= mass/mole

Mr(MO) = 0.9/0.01125

Mr(MO) = 80g/mol

Then

MO=80

M+O=80

M+16=80

M= 80-16

M=64.
