(0.5y - 2) - 1 = 1 - (0.5y - 2)

Remove the brackets. The signs of the second term which are inside the brackets will also change. - will become + and vice versa.

➾ 0.5y - 2 - 1 = 1 - 0.5y + 2

Calculate the sum

➾ 0.5y - 3 = 3 + 0.5y

Move the like terms to LHS and RHS

➾ 0.5y + 0.5y = 3 + 3

Calculate

➾ 1.0y = 6

∴ y = 6

∴ The value of y is \blue{\boxed{\blue{\boxed{\green{\mathbb{6}}}}}}

Verification :-

(0.5y - 2) - 1 = 1 - (0.5y - 2)

➾ 0.5y - 2 - 1 = 1 - 0.5y + 2

➾ 0.5y - 3 = 3 - 0.5y

➾ 0.5y + 0.5y = 3 + 3

➾ y = 6

By putting the value of y,

➾ 6 = 6

∴ LHS = RHS ✔✔
