1) The main features of permanent settlement : a) The rajas and taluqdars were recognised as zamindars.

b) They were responsible for collecting revenue from peasant and paying to the company.

C) Revenue demand was permanently fixed.

3) The new land revenue system fixed very high revenue over the peasants. However peasants were unable to pay them and pay result , villages were deserted ryot fled the country side . It also resulted in revolts and protests from then.

4) Cause lead to revolt- indigo planting in Bengal dated back to 1777 when Louis bonnard, a Frenchman introduced it to the indians .... The indigo planters persuaded the peasants to plant indigo instead of food crops , they provided loans called DADON , at a very high interest.

They started losing land holdings due to poor output . The revolt began the peasants , stopped paying rents. In March 1859 , the revolt began more organised , when thousands of ryots in Bengal refused to grow indigo . They attacked the indigo factories with whatever weapons they had.
