Occurence of Day and Night on Earth:

• The Earth takes 24 hours to complete 1 rotation.
• Rotation = Spinning of Earth on its Axis.
• Axis = Imaginary line on which Earth spins.

• This rotation causes day & night on Earth.

• The tilt of the axis always remains the same. It does not change even when the Earth revolves round the Sun.
• Earth rotates from West to East in an anti-clockwise direction. So, Sun seems to rise in East & set in West.

• In 16th century, Polish Astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus said that Earth spins on its axis & rotates around Sun.
• Circle of Illumination = Imaginary circle that separates – Lighted portion of Earth from Dark one.
