(a) (i) Ovaries(ii) Ampulla of the fallopian tube(iii) In the lining of the uterus(b) The zygote gets implanted in the lining of the uterus and forms placenta which supplies blood to nourish the growing embryo. The zygote starts the cleavage to form a mass of cells which changes into several germ layers by gastrulation which further forms organs by the process of organogenesis.
★Fertilization usually takes place in a fallopian tube that links an ovary to the uterus. If the fertilized egg successfully travels down the fallopian tube and implants in the uterus, an embryo starts growing.
★Implantation is a process in which a developing embryo, moving as a blastocyst through a uterus, makes contact with the uterine wall and remains attached to it until birth. The lining of the uterus (endometrium) prepares for the developing blastocyst to attach to it via many internal changes.
★Ovulation is when a mature egg is released from the ovary. The egg then moves down the fallopian tube where it can be fertilised. If sperm are in the fallopian tube when the egg is released, there is a good chance that the egg will be fertilised, creating an embryo, which can grow into a baby.
