in the inhalation of air the external intercostal muscle push upward and the diaphragm moves downward all these results into the increase in volume of thoracic cavity

♤ The bronchioles terminate in the balloon like structure called alveoli.

♤ The alveoli present in the lungs provide maximum surface for exchange of gases.
