1.valency: the combining power of an element especially as measured by the number of hydrogen atom it can be displaced or combinr with

b).variable valency :certain elements combine with other atoms ,donating,accepting or sharing electron in different proportion depending on nature of reaction

FOR EXAMPLE:

iron combines with O2 to form ferrous oxide as well as furric oxide is termed as variable valency

valency of an element is decided by no. of outermost shell of electrons .if an element exhibit more than one valency .this is called as variable valency
