1) The manager was angry with the employee.

  • Upon means 'on' which is incorrect preposition. When we are referring to a person we usually use 'with'.

2) One of the answers was wrong.

  • We are talking about One of the many answers. We cannot use singular noun.

3) You should buy new furniture for your house.

  • Furniture is uncountable plural noun we do not add 's' to it.

4)They pitched the tent beside the lake.

  • Beside means at the side of something whereas besides means in addition to something.

5) The wood-cutter was felling the trees in the forest.

  • Felling means to cut down while falling is an uncontrollable movement from up to down.

6) The hens had stopped laying eggs.

  • Lying means to not tell the truth or to rest whereas laying means to put something gently. Therefore we use lay.

7) The mother sings until the child goes to sleep.

  • To make the sentence grammatically correct we have to remove 'does not' and use 'goes'.

8) There was no one to look after the children in the hostel.

  • Look at means to observe something whereas look after means to take care.

9) The reply is awaited.

  • Awaited itself means waited for. Therefore, we will remove 'for' from the sentence.

10) The chairman hoisted the flag.

  • Flags are hoisted therefore, to make the sentence grammatically correct we will use hoisted.
