01 Fig. 1.1 shows a diver working below the surface of a lake. The density of the water in the lake is 1000 kg /
m 3 , the atmospheric pressure at the surface is 1.0 × 10 5 Pa and the gravitational field strength is 10 N / kg.
The diver inflates a balloon with air at a depth of 15 m and attaches the balloon to a tray of objects.
Calculate

(ii) the total pressure at 15 m below the surface of the lake.

Given,

Density of water (p) = 1000 kg/m³

Atmospheric Pressure (atm) = 101300 Pa Acceleration due to gravity (g) = 10 m/s²

Depth (d) = 15 m

Total Pressure = atm + dpg

= 101300 + (15*1000*10)

= 101300 + 150000

= 251300 Pa

or,

= 2.513*10⁵ Pa

I hope this helps.
