Representatives are elected by the public, as in national elections for the national legislature. Elected representatives may hold the power to select other representatives, presidents, or other officers of the government or of the legislature, as the Prime Minister in the latter case.

Elected representatives in a democracy are those people who have been elected by the citizens of the country, by exercising their Universal Adult Franchise. In India the elected representatives include the MP's(Member of Parliament), MLA's(Member of Legislative Assembly), Prime Minister and the President(who also come under MP's and MLA's).
