Marine ecosystems adapt themselves to seawater of that area.

Severe storms can cause turbulent seas and this in turn, lifts up sediments from the sea bed and brings in sediments and debris from rivers, streams and the coastline. It makes the water murky, which effects the ecosystem.

Sediments and debris may cover marine life on the sea bed. Oil and other chemicals that have been brought in by the turbulent currents, affect marine life like plants and fishes.

Light waves would be more likely to be refracted or diffracted, thus failing to reach plants and phytoplankton.
