Topic

Newton's Laws of Motion

Given

10kg and 5Kg, two blocks are suspended by means of a thread passing over a frictionless pulley.

To Find

The acceleration and tension on thread.

Method

We will draw Free Body Diagram for given two masses.

Then we will write the equations.

Formula to be Used

Net Force = Ma

where

M is mass and

a is acceleration

Solving

We will write Force Equations

10g - T = 10a

T - 5g = 5a

Add both the equations.

5g = 15a

g / 3 = a

10 / 3 = a

3.33 m/s² = a

Now,

Put value of 'a' in any equation.

10g - T = 10a

100 - T = 10 * ( 3.33 )

100 - T = 33.33

T = 66.67 N

Answer

So, tension in thread is 66.67 N and acceleration of blocks is 3.33 m/s².
