Tidal volume :-

• It is the amount of air that can

be inhale or exhaled during

one respiratory cycle.

This depicts the functions of

the respiratory centres,

respiratory muscles and the

mechanics of the lung and

chest wall.

• Its value s 500 ml.

Expiratory Reserve Volume (ERV) :-

• It is the volume of air that can

be exhaled forcibly after

exhalation of normal tidal

volume.

• The normal adult value is

700-1200ml.

Inspiratory Reserve Volume (IRV) :-

• It is the amount of air that can

be forcibly inhaled after a

normal tidal volume.IRV is

usually kept in reserve, but is

used during deep breathing.

• The normal adult value is

1900-3300ml.

  • The volume of air inhaled or exhaled in a single breath can be defined as tidal volume (TV) is the lung volume representing the normal volume of air displaced between normal inhalation and exhalation when extra effort is not applied. In a healthy, young human adult, tidal volume is approximately 500 mL per inspiration or 7 mL/kg of body mass.

  • Estimated recovery value (ERV) is the projected value of an asset that can be recovered in the event of liquidation or winding down

  • It is the reserve amount that can be exhaled beyond what is normal. Conversely, the inspiratory reserve volume (IRV) is the additional amount of air that can be inhaled after a normal inhalation.
