The maximum marks of the test is 900.
• Let the maximum marks of the test be x.
• Given,
Marks scored by a student = 325
Marks by which the student failed = 35
=> The student required 35 marks more to pass.
• ∴ Passing marks of the test = Marks obtained by student + Marks he required more to pass
=> Passing marks of the test = 325 + 35 = 360
• Also given,
minimum % of marks required to pass the test = 40 %
Now, 40 % of x = (40 / 100) × x = 2x / 5
• Now, according to the question,
2x / 5 = 360
Or, 2x = 360 × 5
Or, x = (360 × 5) / 2
Or, x = 900
• Therefore, maximum marks= 900.
