.When I was leaving the University, Professor J.D. Butler said, "John,I would like to know what becomes o you, and I wish you would write me, say once a year, so I may keep you in sight." I wrote to the Professor, telling him about this meeting with Calypso, and he sent the letter to an Eastern newspaper[The Boston Recorder] with some comments of his own. These, as far as I know, were the first of my words that appeared in print.

Answer:

The bolded words above reveal Muir's attitude about nature because of how he describes the event. At first, he describes the plant as frail and lovely meaning that he finds nature tree reverently whimsical. Then in the second sentence, he says that this is the most memorable and impressive event within the last 40 years. This means a lot because a lot of things can happen in 40 years and he still said that this was the most memorable event is astonishing. It just goes to show his love for these plants, most importantly the Calypso.

The first paragraph's view on nature is that it is dangerous. It talks about he was struggling through d branches and he was in fear that he would not make it through before dark. However, the second paragraph talks about finding the beautiful calypso. She describes the clip so as pure and spiritual. Giving a more positive meaning to Nature rather than his negative meeting in the first paragraph. This has such an impact on the two paragraphs because adding both perspectives of nature around him shows not only does he enjoy plants but he also would do anything to get to them. It also helps the reader better visualize what he goes through to get to these plants, being so descriptive helps the reader understand as well just how much he truly adores these plants.
