09. A rectangular container, whose base is a square
of side 12 cm, contains sufficient water to
submerge a rectangular solid 8 cm x 6 cm
x 3 cm. Find the rise in level of the water in the
container when the solid is completely
immersed in it.

Rise in level of the water is 1 cm.

Step-by-step explanation:

Formula to calculate volume of cuboid = lbh

where, l = length

b = breadth

h = height

Given that, base of a rectangular container is a square.

Thus,both sides will be equal i.e. length = breadth = 12 cm

Volume of cuboid container= 12 \times 12 \times h = 144\;h\,cm^3

Volume of a rectangular base solid =l'b'h'

given that,

l'=8 cm,

b' = 6 cm

h' = 3 cm

Volume of solid = =8 \times 6 \times 3 =144\;cm^3

Solid is submerged in a cuboid container,

Therefore, 144h =144

h=1\;cm

Hence, rise in level of the water is 1 cm.
