Although virtually all eukaryotic organisms perform aerobic respiration using mitochondria, some eukaryotic cells are facultative anaerobes capable of surviving without oxygen when necessary. Humans and other animals are obligate aerobes, requiring oxygen for survival.

examples:peptostreptococus,bacterides,clostridium,actinomyces,amoeba and others.
