To Find :- (-1) × (-1) × (-1) × ……… 10 times is equal to

(a) 1

(b) -1

(c) 1 or -1

(d) none of these.

Concept used :-

  • a × a × a × a ________ n times = a^n
  • 1^n = 1 .
  • (-1)^m = 1 , when m is a even number .
  • (-1)^p = (-1) , when p is a odd number .
  • Numbers which are divisible by 2 are called as even numbers and numbers which are not divisible by 2 are called as odd numbers .

Solution :-

→ (-1) × (-1) × (-1) × _______ 10 times

→ (-1)¹⁰

comparing with (-1)^m we get,

→ m = 10 = 2 × 5 .

since m is divisible by 2 , therefore, m is a even number .

therefore,

→ (-1)¹⁰

1 (Ans.)

Hence, Option (a) 1 is correct answer .

Note :-

  • We just have to check power as even number or odd number . If it is even , result is positive . If it is odd, result is negative .
