EXPERIMENT-TRANSPORTATION IN PLANTS
AIM:
To observe transportation of water in plant cells.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
1. Potatoes 2 Nos. (Raw)
2. Sugar solution- Concentrated solution
3. Plain water
4. Beaker
5. Knife
6. Pins/Toothpicks.
METHOD:
1. Peel the potato and cut the bottom to make a base.
2. Scoop out the inner flesh to make a potato cup
3. Take one potato cup and pour sugar solution into it. Keep this potato cup in a beaker containing water. Take care not to immerse the potato. Mark the level of water inside the potato cup by pricking a pin/toothpick. Mark it as potato A
4. Take another potato cup and pour normal water in it. Keep this potato cup in a beaker containing sugar solution. Mark the level of water in potato cup. Mark it with a different colour to differentiate. Mark it as potato B
5. Keep the setting undisturbed for 4 to 5 hours and observe the changes in the water level.

OBSERVATION:
1. What has happened to the water level after 5 hours:
Potato A:
Potato B:
2. Why do you think there is an increase/decrease?
(Write you own understanding?)

3. What do you think will happen, if you keep a boiled potato for this experiment instead of raw potato? (you can experiment it and find it)
