Answer:

Is 45% the exact percentage of students who are girls or are there more girls than that? If all students were girls, the statement that “45% of the students are girls” would still be correct.

If we take it in the most logical manner that we are referring to a school for humans and students must be either boys or girls then we still cannot even attempt to answer the question.

Why? Well, because there may be any number of boys “in the school” of which only some are students. And it depends if you are meaning the school property or the school entity when you say “school”.

If you mean the school property then there could easily be 200 boys “in the school” from somewhere else for a variety of reasons. Also, there could be any number of the registered boy students not “in the school” at a particular time.

If you mean the school entity, then it depends on when you ask the question as by the time it is answered, any number of boys may have undergone gender reassignment.

There’s no such thing as a simple question and in today’s society it would be very difficult and perhaps even illegal to declare that a student is definitively a boy or a girl. The trend is to give children (again, I’m assuming children because you used the word “girls”) the freedom to decide their own gender with the removal of gender designated toys, clothing, sports and even colours.
