In primary school, we have learnt about factors. For example,
18 = 1 x 18
= 2 x
x 6.
Therefore, the factors of 18 are 1, 2, 6,
and 18.
Notice that 18 is divisible by all its factors, i.e. if 18 is divided by each of its
factors, there will not be
any remainder.
Classifying Whole Numbers
In primary school, we have learnt that we can classify whole numbers into
two groups:
RECALL
Even numbers are whole numbers that are divisible by 2, e.g. 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, ...
Odd numbers are whole numbers that are not divisible by 2, e.g. 1, 3, 5, 7,
9, ...
Now, we will learn another way to classify whole numbers based on the number
of factors they have
