We know, Ice gets converted to water. How? When heat energy is provided to ice, it utilizes it to break the intermolecular bonds in the body. This heat doesn't raise the body temperature so it's hidden, but it exists. This is known as latent heat of fusion. (And in the case of liquids getting converted to gaseous phase it's Latent heat of vaporization)

The extra heat energy in the water molecules in the form of latent heat is the reason why ice molecules have less energy than water molecules with the same temperature.
