THE SUITABLE IDENTITY FOR THE FOLLOWING IS:

(a+b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2

So,

(1+12y)^2 = 1^2 + (12y) ^2 + 2(1)(12y)

= 1 +144y^2 +24y

= 144y^2 + 24y +1

(Rearranging)
