Answer:

The variance of the sample data will be 2.91

Step-by-step explanation:

The given sample data = 1 , 2 , 3, 4 , 5, 6

Mean of the sample, X' = ( 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6)/6

= 21/6

= 3.5

Hence Variance is given by,

Variance, σ² = 1/n x ∑(Xi - X')²

= 1/6 x [( 1-3.5)²+ ( 2-3.5)²+ ( 3-3.5)²+ ( 4-3.5)²+ ( 5-3.5)²+ ( 6-3.5)²]

= 1/6 x [ (-2.5)² + (-1.5)² + (-0.5)² + (0.5)² + (1.5)² + (2.5)²]

= 1/6x [ 6.25 + 2.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 2.25 + 6.25]

= 17.5/6

= 2.91

hence the variance of the sample data will be 2.91
