Indicators are the substance which indicates whether the given substance is acidic or basic.

Indicators 1) litmus paper : turns red litmus blue when substance is basic and, turns blue litmus red when substance is acidic.

2) phenolphthalein : turns colourless when substance is acidic and , turns pink when substance is basic.

3) methyl orange : turns red when substance is acidic and , turns yellow when substance is basic.
