1.2 Prehistory, protohistory and history
(a) Prehistory - Paleo
Paleo - Meso - Neo
Prehistory is the period for which there are no written records. We
rely entirely on archaeology to know about the lives and history of the
people living during this period. Archaeologists explore, excavate and
study the remains to understand the history of prehistoric people and
civilisation (Stone Age)
(b) Protohistory → 3500->2000 BC
Protohistory is the period between prehistory and the beginning of
recorded history. We do find some written records of this period, but
they are few and yet to be deciphered. For example, the history of
Indus Valley Civilisation falls under this period. We have not been able
to decipher the script of this period. (4000 years ago)
