Let A and B be the present ages

so,

A + B = 60 EQ1

A = 60 - B

and,

(A-12)*4 = (B-12)*5

4A - 48 = 5B -60

4A - 5B = -12. EQ2

now putting value of A in equation 2

240 -4B - 5B = -12

9B = 252

B = 28

now putting value of B in equation 1

A + 28 = 60

A = 32
