Answer:

x = -2 (or) 1

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that,

polynomial p(x) = 1 - 2/x + x

here take 'x' as LCM, then

⇒ p(x) = (x - 2 + x²)/x

let, p(x) =0

⇒ (x² + x - 2)/x = 0

⇒ x² + x - 2 = 0

(∵ the factors of 1×-2 = -2 to get their sum as +1 are +2 & -1)

⇒ x² + 2x - x - 2 = 0

⇒ x(x+2)-(x+2) = 0

⇒ (x+2)(x-1) = 0

case-(1):                   Case-(2):

     ⇒ x+2 = 0                     ⇒ x-1 = 0

     ⇒ x = -2                         ⇒ x = 1

∴ x = -2 (or) 1
