Given:

If you have two straight sticks of length  7:5 feet and 3.25 feet

To find:

What is the  minimum length can you measure?​

Solution:

(1). We will first convert the lengths of the two sticks from feet to inches for easy calculations

\boxed{\bold{1 \:feet = 12\:inch}}

∴ 7.5 feet = 7.5 × 12 = 90 inches

and

∴ 3.25 feet = 3.25 × 12 = 39 inches

(2). To find the required minimum length that can be measured, we have to find the H.C.F. of the two lengths i.e., H.C.F. of 90 inches & 39 inches

(3). We will find the H.C.F. using the prime factorisation method:

Factors:

90 = 2 × 3 × 3 × 5

39 = 3 × 13

Highest Common Factor:

∴ H.C.F of 90 & 39 = 3

(4). Now, we will convert the minimum length 3 inches into feet

i.e., 3 inches = \frac{3}{12}\:feet  = \frac{1}{4} \:feet = 0.25\: foot

Thus, the minimum length that can be measured with these two sticks is → 0.25 foot.
