Answer:

29 seconds

Explanation:

5 forward

3 backward

total steps = 8

time = 8 seconds

distance covered = 5-3 = 2m

but he touched 5m mark that is 3+ mtr for every set of 8 steps distance

so

2+2+2 (6mtrs)

when he covers 6m

he would have reached 9m also

then he goes up to 11th mtr

that is 3 set of steps (that he covered to cover 6 metres)

+

5m (as he won't come back, he'd have already fell into the pit)

1 set of steps time = 8 seconds

3 set of steps = 24 seconds

+ 5 more steps to fall in pit = 24+5 seconds

answer = 29 seconds.

\Huge{\mathfrak {Solution \colon}}

Option (A) is correct

Given

  • Each Step is 1m long

  • Time taken to cover one step is 1 second

The man first takes 5 steps forward and 3 steps backward

➠ Total Distance Covered : 5 + 3 = 8m

➠ Total Displacement : 5 - 3 = 2m

The man again takes 5 steps forward and 3 steps backward

➠ Total Distance : 8 + (5 + 3) = 16m

➠ Total Displacement : 2 + (5 - 3) = 4m

The man repeats the same again

➠ Total Distance : 16 + (5 + 3) = 24m

➠ Total Displacement : 4 + (5 - 3) = 6m

The pit is 11m away from the initial position

  • If the man takes 5 steps further,we would cover 11m and would fall in the pit

➠ Total Distance : 24 + 5 = 29m

➠ Total Displacement : 6 + 5 = 11m

Now,

If it takes 1s to cover 1m

Then the time taken to cover 29 m would be :

Total Time : Total Distance × Time Taken to cover one step / Length Of One Step

Total Time : 29 × 1 /1

Total Time : 29s
