Total time taken

=400/25+300/30+500/50

16+10+10=36
hours

Average speed = Total distance/Total time

=1200/36=33 1/3 km/hr

Given:

  • 1/3 of certain journey is covered in 25 km/h.
  • 1/4 at the rate of 30km/h.
  • the rest of 50km/h.

To Find:

  • Average speed for the whole journey.

Solution:

Let the total distance be 1200km

As we know,

 \:  \:  \sf \: time =  \frac{distance}{speed}

Now put on formula

Total time taken

=400/25 + 300/30 + 500/50

=16 +10 + 10 = 36 hours

Now,find average speed

As we know,

 \:  \:  \sf \: average \: speed =  \frac{total \: distance}{total \: time}

Now put on formula

•average speed = 1200/36

•average speed =\sf33\dfrac{1}{3}km.
