Answer:

Passage II Gandhiji saw politics as an instrument to render enormous service to social and political thought by conceiving a social order based on truth and non-violence. He did not believe in any particular religion. He believed in that universal religion which transcends all particular ones by its moral characteristics like love, fraternity and non-violence. Gandhian politics is imbued with the spirit of Gandhian religion. Naturally, Gandhiji's religious beliefs hold the key to the understanding of Gandhian political thought. It has become a maxim that Gandhiji spiritualized politics. Today, politics is perceived as an instrument to render service to politicians and to their families and not to the society. Modern politics is not universal and secular, but rather it supports the factions of the society and tries to outwit others, leading to riots and tussles in the society. There is not even a remote connection between politics, religion and moral values. If Gandhiji had spiritualized politics, then modern politicians have criminalized the same to shield themselves from the hands of law. Earlier, petty offenders used to enter into politics but, interestingly, these days, the 'big fishes' have entered the band wagon. It is rightly said that "Politics is the last resort of rogues". Today politics is in a stage that never must have been dreamt of by Gandhiji himself.
