let us mutliply them

=> 1.4(2-x)-0.5(2x-4)=0

=>2.8 - 1.4x - 1x +2 = 0

=> 2.8 +2 -1.4x - 1x

=>4.8 - 2.4x = 0 

=>2.4x = 4.8

=>x = 4.8/2.4

=>x =2

=>∴x = 2
