Logic:- 1+4=5, add 5 to the sum of 2+5 that is 7, so 7+5=12, so it is written 2+5=12. Then add 12 to the sum of 3+6 that is 9, so 9+12= 21, so it written 3+6=2+21. And then a 21 to the sum of 8+11 that is 19, so 19+21=40, that's why the answer is 40.
