Let,

Eight years ago,

Their ages :-

• Age of Sunil = x - 8 years
• Age of Anu = x + 4 - 8 = x - 4 years

According to the question,

→ x - 4 = 3(x - 8)

→ x - 4 = 3x - 24

→ x - 3x = - 24 + 4

→ - 2x = - 20

→ 2x = 20

→ x = 20 ÷ 2

→ x = 10

The value of x = 10

Substitute the value of x in the ages of Sunil and Anu.

• Present age of Sunil = x = 10 years
• Present age of Anu = x + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14 years
