Given:

Volume of gas = 1.40dm³

Temperature =  27°C

Pressure = 900 torr

Mass = 2.273g

To find:

Molecular mass of the gas

Solution:

Appling the equation of Gas

PV=nRT,

Substituting the values -

P = 900/760

= 1.184 atom

Now,

T = 27 + 273

= 300oA

V = 1.40dm³

R = 0.0821 dm³

Substituting the values -

N =PV/RT

= ( 1.184 x 1.4 ) / ( 0.0821 x 300 )

= 0.067

Calculating the Mol. Wt.

= Wt. in g/mole

= 2.273/0.067

= 34

Answer:  The molecular mass of the gas is 34 a.m.u.
