Given :

  • 1/5, 2/3, 3/8 and 5/7

To find :

  • descending order

Solution :

⇒ Let's find the LCM of the denominators.

{ \begin{array}{c|c} \sf 5 & \sf{ 5,3,8,7 } \\ \cline{1-2} \sf 3 & \sf {1,3,8,7 } \\ \cline{1-2} \sf 8 & \sf{ 1,1,8,7\\ \cline{1-2} \sf 7 & \sf{1,1,1,7} \\ \cline{1-2} \sf  & \sf{ 1,1,1,1} \end{array}}

LCM = 5 x 3 x 8 x 7

        = 15 x 8 x 7

        = 840

⇒ Converting the denominator to the LCM.

= 1 × 168/5 × 168

= 168/840

= 2 × 280 /3 × 280

= 560/840

= 3 × 105/8 × 105

= 315/840

= 5 × 120/7 × 120

= 600/840

⇒ Now, the fractions are 168/840, 560/840, 315/840 and, 600/840.

⇒ Let's arrange them in descending order now.

  • 600/840, 560/840, 315/840, and 168/840.

Therefore, the descending order is 5/7, 2/3, 3/8 and, 1/5.
