1 +  \sqrt{5}  - (4 +  \sqrt{5)}

1 +  \sqrt{5}  - 4 -  \sqrt{5}

1 - 4

 - 3

 = 1  +  \sqrt{5}  - (4 +  \sqrt{5})   \\ \\  = 1 +  \sqrt{5} - \ 4 -  \sqrt{5 } \\ =1-4\\ =  - 3
