The number inside the star is got by taking the difference between the sums of odd numbers and even numbers each, which are outside the corresponding star at each of its vertices.

In the first star, the numbers 1, 6, 2, 3 and 4 are placed at each of its vertices, and 8 is the number inside the star.

Here 1 and 3 are odd numbers and 6, 2 and 4 are even numbers. Hence,

\longrightarrow (6+2+4)-(1+3)=12-4

\longrightarrow (6+2+4)-(1+3)=8

In the second star, the numbers 4, 9, 8, 2, 11 are placed at each of its vertices, and 6 is the number inside the star.

Here 11 and 9 are odd numbers and 4, 8 and 2 are even numbers. Hence,

\longrightarrow (11+9)-(4+8+2)=20-14

\longrightarrow (11+9)-(4+8+2)=6

In the second star, the numbers 10, 7, 5, 2 are placed at each of its vertices with 5 two times.

Here 7 and 5 are odd numbers and 10 and 2 are even numbers. So the number inside the star will be,

\longrightarrow (7+5+5)-(10+2)=17-12

\longrightarrow (7+5+5)-(10+2)=\bf{5}

Hence 5 is the answer.
