First we find the L.C.M. of the denominators of the fractions to make the denominators same

L.C.M of 6,9,12,3 = 36

Now to make the fraction as like fractions divide the L.C.M. by the denominator of fractions, then multiply both the numerator and denominator of fraction with the number get after dividing L.C.M.

As in fraction 1/6 denominator is 6

Divide 36 ÷ 6 = 6

Now, multiply both numerator and denominator by 6 =

 \frac{1}{6}   \times  \frac{6}{6}  =  \frac{6}{36}

Similarly ,

 \frac{4}{9}  \times  \frac{4}{4}  =  \frac{16}{36}  \\  \\  \frac{5}{12 } \times   \frac{3}{3}  =  \frac{15}{36}  \\  \\ \frac{1}{3}  \times  \frac{12}{12} =  \frac{12}{36}

Ascending order of fractions is

 \frac{6}{36}  <  \frac{12}{36}  <  \frac{15}{36}  <  \frac{16}{36}

OR

 \frac{1}{6}  <  \frac{1}{3}  <  \frac{5}{12}  <  \frac{4}{9}
